Description
Plot Charts are a necessary story analysis skill, so we’ve made them so much fun. Your learners will be begging for more (seriously, read the feedback) as they watch Pixar Short Films and analyze the plot.
TEXTS: 10 Pixar Short Films (films not included)
PLOT PACKET: 10 Pixar Plot Arcs w/ Answer Key
POWERPOINT: Graphic-rich resource to use with the student packet
COMMON CORE: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2
→ Answer Keys Provided
→ Canadian plot language version included
NOTE: All of these shorts can be found on Disney+! Or you can purchase the short films collections for your classroom. We know it’d be super amazing if the videos were included along with our resource. 🙂 Unfortunately, that would be some serious copyright and trademark infringement and would be stealing videos from Pixar/Disney, so we can’t do that. Simply follow the links for you to purchase the DVDs so you can always have them to use with your students.
DISCLAIMER: We do not have a relationship with Disney/Pixar. This resource requires you to purchase the videos from Disney/Pixar and functions as a supplement to analyze the stories and images in the films.
→ PIXAR Short Films Collection 1
→ PIXAR Short Films Collection 2

★ Exposition (setting, characters, and background info)
★ Conflict (also called “Inciting Incident” for Canada)
★ Rising Action (3 events or details)
★ Climax
★ Falling Action (2 events or details)

WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS PLOT RESOURCE
♥ This is my all-time fave! Thank you — my 8th grade students did not even ask to go to the bathroom during this unit, it’s that good. When one would get called out of the room they would beg me to wait on them.
♥ FABULOUS way to review plot elements for my 9th graders! This was WAY more fun than taking notes over stuff they’ve been learning since elementary. They LOVED it, and it’s hard to find things that 9th graders don’t think are lame.
♥ I love this resource and so do my students! The recommended videos are short enough that students can remember the story without having to review it over and over again. The videos don’t have dialog either. This made is easy for my ELL students to be successful but difficult for students who have trouble differentiating emotions. I used this in a 5th grade classroom.
♥ This is an awesome resource! I love the detail and creativity that went into this resource! It is user friendly and has saved me a ton of work. This is a great way for students to get excited about short stories and plot diagrams! I actually don’t think I can say enough good things about it especially for a free resource! I am excited to be able to purchase additional resources from you 🙂
♥ WOW!!! What an amazing resource! I just taught plot definitions today and decided to do a short film for the kids to apply their knowledge. I was hoping for Boundin’, a personal favorite, but stumbled on Day and Night first, another favorite (what incredible animation). I love the handouts for each Pixar short and appreciate the answer keys. Thank you for creating and sharing such a fun activity!
