We’re excited to be linking up with Stephanie from Falling into First for her Meet the Teacher Blogger linky party.
HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT US:
We met the summer before Lisa (that’s me!) started her junior year of high school when Jonathan was entering college. We dated a few months before Lisa broke up with Jonathan. Our families did game nights and hung out so we got to know each other better that way. Lisa realized she made a mistake in breaking up with Jonathan and that he was an amazingly respectful, smart, godly man. She asked him to her junior prom and they’ve been together ever since and married for 12 of those years.
Jonathan has been teaching for 13 years. When school starts back up he will be teaching 7th & 8th grade English and creative writing at a charter school in Southern California.
Lisa taught first and second grade before she made the leap of faith into being a full-time mommy.
THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS . . .
Lisa: Traveling. Sweets. Sleeping. Photography. Reading. Walking. PiYo. Dancing. Music. Laughing. Kids giggling. Hearing people’s life stories. Hume Lake. Riding trains (especially in Europe). My friends. When people brush or braid my hair. Looking at home floor plans and going to open houses. Being able to wake up naturally from sleep (not by an alarm or child poking me). Theater . . . one of my favorite things about teaching is the performance aspect involved in keeping the children’s attention.
Jonathan: Photography. Traveling. Lakers. Purple Otter Pops. The color green. Thinking. Discussing the deeper meanings of things.
IF YOU WEREN’T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
Lisa: a stay-at-home-mom and/or foster parent . . . I’m living the dream people! As a kid I wanted to be an architect or a movie star.
Jonathan: I would like to be one of those guys who gets paid to travel the world and take pictures of all the amazing places. They do get paid for that, right?
THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Jonathan said these for Lisa: Beautifully deep heart
Lisa said these for Jonathan: Charger. Thoughtful. Wise.
FINISH THE SENTENCE, “________, SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!”
Lisa: “I love report cards,” said no teacher ever!
Jonathan: “When you’re done with your gum, please stick it under your desk where other people’s knees will touch it,” said no teacher ever!
Q: IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
Lisa: Jesus, JonathanStephens, Jen Hatmaker, Ellen DeGeneres, Pink, Martin Luther King Jr., BrianMcClaren, and a few of my closest friends (so I could hear all their thoughts and stories of interacting with each “famous” person).
Jonathan: Bono, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Jesus, and Hitler. (Lisa can come too.) With those people all together and Jesus turning all kinds of water into wine for Adolf, history is bound to end up differently.
Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?
Lisa: Lost In My Head
Jonathan: The Prince Husband
Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
Lisa: the ability to magically clean my house
Jonathan: Telekinesis. If I could somehow keep an extension cord or hose from getting tangled while I use it, my life just might be complete. Also I’d be able to move toys out of my way in the dark without having to bend over.
Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
Lisa: “Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
Jonathan: “God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Lisa: Pink – Family Portrait
Jonathan: Brooks and Dunn’s “That’s What She Gets”
Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
Lisa: night owl
Jonathan: Kinda both. I’ve been told I need to sleep more or I’ll probably find myself…
Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU’VE CREATED IN YOUR TpT SHOP?
Lisa: My Multiple Meaning Word book which I just recently updated and made it editable in PDF. I’m so excited to upload the current product with the editable versions but I want to have some teachers try it first to make sure it is fully functioning and looks good. If people buy the current version they will be informed in an email through TpT when the updated version is ready to download. Until then, if anyone wants to try out the editable version, email me ( inthelight23 [@] hotmail [dot] com) and I’ll send it to the first 15 people for no cost as long as you send me an email with your thoughts and possible edits.
Jonathan: I really love the Grammar Ninjas. Grammar can be so boring for kids, so I wanted to come up with something that would be just weird enough to hold their attention and sneak attack them so they didn’t realize they were learning.
Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!
Lisa: I was one of the girls that played Newt in Aliens 3. The girl mentioned in the IMBD credits was the Newt on the table for the autopsy scene. I was the Newt during the beginning credits when Newt is sleeping in the pod and the alien hand goes over the glass and the glass cracks. Yeah, it was considered a stunt to have glass cracked over me. It was Newt’s implied death scene.
Jonathan: My wife and I have been foster parents twice. We both have a heart to open our home to this oft-overlooked community of kids and feel like our family can be a flawed gift of home to a few of them, as far from perfect as we most certainly are.
